So, being the paranoid mom that I am (I swear I’d be more relaxed – and energized – if I would have had kids in my 20s…)…I had Cooper’s head scanned today to see if he needs a helmet.  He has a bit of a flat spot (positional plagiocephaly if you want to get technical…) on one side of the back of his head (due to mild torticollis – basically a stiff neck when he was born – always turned his head in one direction over the other).  And then of course add the fact that he procrastinated on the whole rolling over thing, I’ve been a bit obsessed with it.  I’ve mentioned it to our pediatrician several times, but never really got reassurance or concern (I mean, give me something!  I think I'm going to switch pediatricians...) – and of course the response I get from Chris is – “I’m a pilot.”  So, the last visit to the pediatrician which was made by Chris (just the other day) resulted in a referral to this place that evaluates children to see if they need a helmet to help correct flat spots.  The place does the scan and evaluation for free so I thought I might as well go for peace of mind.  The scan is done with digital cameras (or something) and took about 5 seconds…then they put all the info in some kind of computer program and come out with pictures and measurements and then they rate how bad it is (on a scale of 0-5, 5 being bad…).  One of Cooper’s scans is below.  They showed another scan (which I don’t have a print out of) where you can see that his ears are completely uneven – she said one is 13 mm in front of the other.  He rated about a 1.5 overall…so we’re just going to go back in 4 weeks and have him re-scanned to see if he’s made any progress.  Several people have no idea what I’m talking about when I say he might need a helmet…so I’ve included a picture with some kids with these helmets.  I realize I may be a little too concerned about all of this…but I don’t want his modeling career to be over before he even reaches the age of 1 ;)
In other news…we bought a little tray for Cooper’s Bumbo seat so we can have him sit in that and still be able to reach some toys.  It worked for about 5 minutes before he threw all of the toys on the floor and couldn’t reach them.  Love this kid!  And a 3rd tooth is now coming in…I didn’t want to wrestle Cooper to get a picture of it, but he is chewing on anything and everything…as seen below.
